Many of you have written and asked about my background covering the Riders ... Here's a bio that was in the program of the 2003 Rural Sports Hall of Fame Induction ceremony..
John Lynch began covering CFL football in 1969 for Hart Kirch at CJME in Regina when they shockingly acquired exclusivity to the prized Rider radio rights which were jointly held up to that time by CKRM and CKCK.
Lynch did a three times a week three -minute monologue on football only on the Hart Kirch morning show from June 1st till Decmber 31st. He also did half time interviews on the Rider home games thru 1969 and 1970. He worked with play by play man Bob Hutton and colour commentators Larry Dumelie and Bill Clarke.
In 1971 he moved to CKRM and did a weekly football show with Bob Hutton entitled Football Facts which was a one half hour show every Thursday at five during the football season jammed with all kinds of facts about the Roughriders and the CFL. Lynch worked at CKRM on this show till the end of the 1973 season. The 1974 season saw Lynch move to CKCK who acquired the exclusive Radio Rights for a period of four years in a heated and tense battle with CKRM and CJME. The first two years of the contract Lynch reported on field and weather conditions and injury situations from field level on home games only.---.In 1976 Lynch got his first big break as CKCK made him the colour commentator on all Rider games both home and away..a postion he held for the next ten years except for the year 1978 when he did play by play of the away games. He worked with broadcasting legends Dale Isaac and Ron Barnett while at CKCK. As well he co -hosted a Monday Night Football phone in show with Ron Barnett over the period 1976 till the end of the 1982 season.
The Saskatchewan Football world was startled in 1983 when CKRM acquired the rights and Lynch was the only member of the crew who was reatained as color commentator a position he held till the end of the 1985 season. At CKRM he worked for all three years with play by play manTim Dancy and as well in 1983 during football season, he hosted a daily one hour Sports phone in show entitled Sportsline. John began his television career in 1986 with Cable Regina, now Access Communications, co -hosting with Roy Brown and Paul Klinger a weekly show called "In The Huddle'". In 1989 Lynch returned to radio at CKCK co-hosting with Paul Klinger a post game phone in show football called "The Last Word" as well as doing "In the Huddle " on Access Communications. Lynch joined CKCK radio on February the 10th 1994 on a full time basis as their Sports Director, a postion which he held for two and one half years. John returned to the Rohrider Radio Broadcasting crew in 1999 till present co-hosting the post game Show with first Michael Ball and currently Joe Hadesbeck as well as being a regular on Sportsline every Monday Night. John is a member of the Saskatchewan Roughrider Hall of Fame selection committee and a past member of the CFL Hall of Fame selection committee.
